Makapu'u State Wayside * Ka Iwi Scenic Shoreline

Hawaiian Islands
Humpback Whale National Marine Sanctuary

"Humpback whales (kohola) can be seen in Hawaiian waters from December to May. Mothers and calves can often be seen resting near shore. The acrobatic displays of humpbacks are visible from miles away.

Most of the North Pacific humpback whale population migrates nearly 3,000 miles to Hawaiian waters each winter to mate, calve, and nurse. During the spring and summer they return to feed in cool, nutrient-rich waters near Alaska and other northern areas."
Video coming soon - but there are others of this area at Hawaiiphotosofaloha's Channel

Makapu'u Point Trail - Hiking to Makapu'u Lighthouse

What great views! The image above is taken from the beginning of the hike on the way up. The hike is an easy 1.5 mile walk on an asphalt path.

Waimanalo, the Windward side of Oahu

The Eastern Coast of Oahu is referred to as the Windward Side. Well, I didn't realize when I lived on the North Shore and only visited the Windward side, that Windward means

the Wind NEVER EVER stops - thank goodness it's a warm tropical wind!

Very Cool - Waimanalo post office boxes ~ they're antique! Here's mine up close. A combination to remember - reminds me of high school days.
